Holiday home

A hide-away house in the southern region of Iceland, surrounded by a magnificent, vast, panoramic view.

The building is made from cross-laminited timber panels, sitting on a cast-in-situ plinth, composed by two intersecting volumes who differ in heights.
The lower volume, rendered with black aluminum cladding, hosts three bedrooms and a car port whereas the higher volume, rendered in untreated larch, consists of an open living room and kitchen area, a master bedroom and an “built in” outdoor shower - situated close to an hot tub and a cold plunge area.

The majority of the timber panels are left exposed on the inside to generate an intimate and cozy atmosphere creating a strong contrast between the soft interior and the robust exterior.

The main focus of the living room is to celebrate the horizon and the great view over the river Brúará, mountain Vörðufell to the south, the valley of Fagridalur and mountain Mosfell to the west and even Þórisjökull glacier to the north.

Add-on window system is used on the larger volume to further enhance the view from the living room.
Narrow, horizontal, windows detach the two volumes from each other which lets in a very nice morning light to the foyer.
