S15

L - shaped villa

The building is based in a drastic landscape surrounded by birch trees, moss and lava fields.

The building sits on a cast-in-situ plinth, rendered with black concrete and a vertical timber form work harmonizing with the surrounding landscape, wrapping itself around a south facing garden area.

The roof is a single sloped surface where the lower part of the roof stretches itself over the west and south facade generating a sheltered pathway towards a beautiful garden.

A master suite, TV room and an open living room and kitchen is situated on the north side of the plot, furthest away from the street, embracing the beautiful view towards tall birch trees and a lava field.

Closest to the street, to the south, a part of the roof sits on a cast in situ “box” which serves the building as a storage unit and a shower area. More importantly, the box serves the building as a visual barrier from the street which gives the front facade a very ambiguous elevation.
